The Definitive 31 Days of Halloween Horror Movies: Your October 2025 Watchlist

Folks, October is almost here. (Or maybe you’re reading this when it already IS here.)

Which means it’s spooky season. And for horror movie buffs like you and me, that means we watch a TON of horror films.

I like to do one each day in October. And I plan it out in advance.

This year, I want to share my list with you. This is my 31 Days of Halloween October Horror Movie Watchlist. I’ve divided each week into a particular horror movie “era” to make it feel like more of a journey.

I really tried to come up with a title for the list that’s less of a mouthful, but alas, this is what I’m stuck with. In any case, enjoy!

Week 1: Setting the Stage (Foundations & Classics)

Oct. 1. Nosferatu (1922)

The original vampire nightmare, dripping with atmosphere and German Expressionist style. Nearly a century later, it still feels otherworldly. It’s available on YouTube. 

And now, there’s a new Nosferatu that is really good. I’d watch that one, too.

Universal Horror at its peak. Boris Karloff’s tragic monster remains one of horror’s most enduring figures.

Hitchcock shattered rules with this shocking thriller. The shower scene alone changed horror forever.

George Romero rewrote zombie lore and injected biting social commentary. A low-budget masterpiece that defined a subgenre.

Week 2: The Golden Age of Terror (Late ‘70s – ‘80s)

Oct. 8. Alien (1979)

A perfect blend of sci-fi and horror, with one of cinema’s greatest monsters. “In space, no one can hear you scream.”

Kubrick’s surreal descent into madness. Its imagery and atmosphere are etched into horror history.

Oct. 10. Friday the 13th (1980)

Camp counselors, a vengeful killer, and a lakeside legend. The slasher boom starts here.

Paranoia and body horror collide in the snow. John Carpenter’s practical effects remain unmatched.

Psychological horror elevated to Oscar glory. Hannibal Lecter’s chilling presence never fades.

Urban legend meets social critique. Say his name five times if you dare.
